Walking
  • Espace de Liberte – park with lake up off The Promenade – ideal for a stroll, run or picnic
  • Chateau de Saissac *** – visit the castle and if you enjoy rambling carry on down the hill to where the two rivers meet – lots more ruins of earlier entrances to the village
  • Rigole – towards Arfons on the D4 – about 3kms where the road crosses the river – park here and walk in either direction along the rigole which feeds the canals – suitable for cycling also
  • Canal du Midi – there is a tow path along most of the canal for pleasant walking or cycling
Markets
  • Revel***  – 20kms – a busy Saturday produce market (20 kms)
  • Mirepoix *** – 40kms – artisan products and produce in a beautiful arcaded square – Mondays – (40kms)
  • Carcassonne *** – produce market in Place Carnot on a Saturday
  • Bram every Saturday morning (18.9 km)
  • Castelnaudary every Monday morning (23.4 km)
  • Saissac every Thursday morning – place de Marie - small
Beaches
  • Head out the Mediterranean coast – loads of beaches – about an hour from the house
Cathar Trail
  • Lastours is definitely worth a visit ***
  • Carcassonne *** – La Cite is a world heritage site – the best preserved medieval fortress in Europe
  • Further afield – Rienes le Chateau, Perepetuse, Qeribus and many more 
 
Wine Tasting
  • Look for Cave and Degustation signs around the areas of Carbardes and Minervois
  • Visit Chateau Pennautier for lunch and wine tasting –on of our favourite restaurants ***
